Blocks of Yamate were numbered in the order of registration. Yamate 111-bankan means the house at the 111th registered place. It was designed by J.H.Morgan as a house for Americans, and built after the Great Kanto Earthquake. It is beautiful house with a corridor of double-height structure, and you can see the garden and port from a great single glass window at the dining hall.

The British House was built in 1937 as a palace for the British Consul General. It is a rebar two-storey building with a massive British style, and you can see the British specific way of designing houses, like placing the dorrknobs up high. The Rose Graden in the Prot Hill Park is located next to the British House and the whole house is filled with the scent of colorful roses in May, June October and November.

The staff of the Western-style houses will show you the areas of the building which you cannot visit unless you join this tour, such as the former Basement Wine Cellar in the British House & 2nd floor of Yamate 111-bankan. It is a special service for all participants of this tour!
